Little River Blueway Adventure Region

Savannah Lakes Village is surrounded on all sides by the Little River Blueway Adventure Region. Whether your idea of outdoor adventure is an open-window drive touring historical sites, a family kayak trip down the scenic Little River, or an exhilarating mountain bike ride, the Little River Blueway Outdoor Adventure Area is sure to have the activities to fit your style of exploring.

If canoeing, kayaking, or stand-up paddling are your passions, the Little River Blueway offers 51 miles of diverse and scenic paddling trails. Upper sections of the paddling routes are completely buffered by National Forest land. Protected from development, this allows you be completely enfolded by the forest and wildlife. Lower sections along the Little River and open water sections on Lake Thurmond are buffered by USACE lands, offering numerous coves to explore and waterfront camping at state and USACE parks.

The Little River Blueway Adventure Region also offers excellent hiking and biking trails. Within the two state parks bordering Savannah Lakes Village are 21 miles of single-track mountain biking trails built by the Southern Off-Road Bicycling Association (SORBA). These trails are suitable for hiking and biking. The seven-mile “Lakefront Loop” trail at the Hickory Knob State Resort Park is a must ride trail for serious off-road bikers. The trail has many obstacles, including moderate jumps and dips through gullies, which are minor in comparison to the views offered of Lake Thurmond along the trail.

A more leisurely, but equally beautiful, biking/hiking trail can be enjoyed along the Savannah Valley Railroad Trail. The southeastern point of the trail is 2.5 miles from Baker Creek Base Camp. There are also hundreds of miles of unpaved Forest Service roads winding through the National Forest and river basins.

The Little River Blueway area is surrounded by other notable trails. The Forks Area Trail System (FATS), which is designated as an Epic Trail by the International Mountain Biking Association, along with Turkey/Wine Creek Trail and Steven’s Creek Trail are all within a 30-mile drive from Blueway Base Camp.

In addition to these attractions, the area features 63 holes of golf, skeet shooting, hundreds of miles of Forest Service roads, numerous historical sites/cemeteries, and a 50-mile scenic drive. All of these elements have been consolidated into one recreation system, resulting in the tremendous outdoor recreation and sporting area we call the Little River Blueway Outdoor Adventure Area ... Enjoy!
